Foundation Application Mistakes to Avoid

Makeup, when used right, can enhance your beauty and make you more attractive. However, if you get the basics wrong, your entire look will be spoiled. Correctly using and applying the foundation is vital in achieving a flawless natural look. Here are a few common foundation mistakes to avoid.

  • The wrong shade
One of the most common foundation mistakes to avoid is picking the wrong shade. If you pick a shade that is too light, you could end up looking chalky, artificial, and pale, whereas a dark shade can ruin your look. Your foundation should be the perfect match for your skin tone. To achieve this, you must test the product before buying. Apply a little of the product on your jawline or neck it should blend in seamlessly. Let it be for some time as some foundations tend to oxidize on the skin, thus, changing color. It is advisable not to buy foundation online. You might also need different shades for summer, when your skin is tanned, and winter, when you want to achieve a more natural look.
  • Applying too much
It is not necessary to apply foundation all over the face. Foundation can be used to even out the skin tone and can be applied only on areas that show signs of shadows, pigmentation or blemishes. Another one of the common foundation mistakes to avoid is a buildup of the product at the hairline. Therefore, start at the center and work outwards, blending the product with your skin.
  • Prepping the skin
Not prepping the skin should also be on all lists common foundation mistakes to avoid. Apply any moisturizers or creams a few minutes before you apply your foundation. This will help your skin to absorb these products. This prevents product piling. Removing all traces of makeup the previous night and washing and moisturizing your face the previous night might be good in preventing dry skin. Foundation tends to appear patchy when applied on dry skin.
  • The type of foundation
Foundation is available in various forms such as liquid, powder, mousse, and gel. You should pick the type of foundation best suited for you, depending on your skin type. Liquids and cream products are good for dry skin as they hydrate and moisturize the skin. Oil and combination skin types can use powders or oil-free formulas to absorb the excess oil from the skin.
  • Not using the right tools
Depending on the type of foundation you are using, you should use the correct tools to apply it. Brushes work best as they don’t absorb as much of the product as a sponge and are easy to clean. Sponges give a more matte finish. For a more natural look, you can even use your fingertips to apply the foundation.

Keep this list of common foundation mistakes to avoid the next time you’re putting your makeup on to achieve that flawless look you’ve always wanted.
